Perfect match: brushed copper
Bathroom Monique
With a copper wire business, you choose brushed copper taps!
A few years ago, Monique and her husband Hans faced a choice: renovate or move? They opted for the latter — a new-build home just down the road — which meant a fresh start with a new bathroom. Monique: “As a midwife, I visit many homes and see countless bathrooms. That’s how I came up with the idea of a wall with green herringbone tiles. I even made a mood board featuring that tile. But when we visited bathroom specialist Joost Post, we fell in love with a 120x120 cm green marble-look tile. Completely different from what we had in mind, but we’ve never regretted it. We absolutely love our new bathroom.”

Perfect match: brushed copper
The marble-look tile became the starting point for choosing the vanity unit and taps. “During our visit, we discovered Hotbath taps — gorgeous! Our contractor joined us for the meeting, and it helped that he had lots of experience with Hotbath. We chose the Cobber collection. It was an easy decision: brushed copper looked perfect with the green marble-look tile. Hans runs a company specialising in copper wire, so it felt like a fitting coincidence!”
The brushed copper finish is part of Hotbath’s Living Colours range. These taps naturally change tone over time, developing a lively patina. Monique decided to have them finished with a PVD coating (Physical Vapor Deposition) to preserve their fresh look. “It was important to me that the taps had a protective coating so they would keep their beautiful appearance. A fun detail: our towel warmer from Instamat has exactly the same brushed copper tone as the taps.”

Double delight with two washbasins
Monique wanted built-in taps for the new bathroom. “For the aesthetic effect. I just find them more elegant and refined than surface-mounted ones. As in our previous bathroom, we chose two washbasins. The controls on both mixers (CB005) are placed on the right-hand side. I love symmetry — that’s why. In practice, Hans and I don’t use the mirror together that often, but we do share the bathroom with two of our children.”
To avoid clutter, everyone in the Smith household has their own little basket in the wooden vanity unit. “We each keep our own toiletries and accessories in it. The idea is to keep the washbasin area clear — and so far, that’s working pretty well,” Monique laughs. “There’s no morning rush in our house. Hans and I shower in the morning, and the kids usually in the evening.”

‘A walk-in shower was a must in the new bathroom.’

The shower controls
A walk-in shower was a must-have. The family chose a thermostatic built-in set with an overhead shower and separate hand shower (IBS70BCP). “My husband and the kids mainly use the overhead shower. When I want to keep my hair dry, I use the hand shower. I love the slim design — it’s elegant, and the water pressure is great.”
Their contractor came up with a clever idea: “He suggested placing the shower controls on the side wall instead of the back. The control to turn the shower on is right at the entrance, so you never get wet. It’s brilliant.”
