Marcel and Marlies are both self-employed entrepreneurs. Alongside their business, they create unique, natural surface structures together. Their vision is to bring spaces to life using natural clay and lime. They applied this philosophy throughout their home and bathroom, giving every room its own story.
Marlies: “Marcel is a restoration plasterer by trade (MVH Stukadoors) and regularly creates beautiful, authentic ornaments as well as complete interiors and bathrooms.” It came as no surprise, then, that this project resulted in a distinctive and truly unique bathroom. The couple designed the space themselves, aiming to create a spa-like atmosphere with a Mediterranean feel where they could unwind every day.
“In addition to the beautiful organic curves that make the bathroom unique, we used South African clay, applied in multiple layers and then hardened. This creates a waterproof surface, perfect for a bathroom. Our goal was to feel as though we were in a spa every day, but at home. The combination of modern shapes with authentic features such as the stained-glass window and old doors makes this a truly one-of-a-kind bathroom.”
Dream bathroom
“The old bathroom was outdated and too small for our dream design, so we decided to expand it during the renovation. The new bathroom doubled in size to an impressive 15 m², allowing space for a generous bath and a large walk-in shower for two.”
The couple drew inspiration from natural forms – think of the texture of trees or the waves of the sea. With its colours and materials, the bathroom radiates a Mediterranean atmosphere full of calm and warmth.

The colour of the Cobber taps in Brushed Copper PVD is a perfect match with the bathroom’s style and character. “Our bathroom specialist gave us excellent advice and recommended Hotbath. At first, we considered Brushed Copper from the Living Colour range, but we wanted to preserve the colour.
Since the PVD coating offers long-term protection and prevents discolouration, we ultimately chose Brushed Copper PVD. We love how beautifully it complements the rest of the bathroom – it’s a finish we truly want to keep.”
